History

Dennis Buchanan comes from a family of builders and contractors. Dennis' father, Terry N. Buchanan, began his construction career in 1936 in Missoula, Montana. In 1945, he established T. N. Buchanan Co., which eventually developed into West Coast Construction Co., a company still in operation today. Dennis' father was a forceful spokesman for the construction industry and a dynamic member of the Associated General Contractors Association (AGC), for which he served as president in 1966.

Dennis' brother, Tim Buchanan, now retired, worked along side his father at West Coast Construction. Dennis' brother, Duncan, owns Buchanan Land Construction, an active, local earth work company. Dennis' son, Terry, is a long-time project manager at Buchanan General Contracting Company.

Buchanan General Contracting Company was established in 1985. Dennis, now a 44-year veteran in construction, trained at a number of regionally known construction companies, working his way up to chief estimator, prior to opening the doors to Buchanan General Contracting Company.

Under his guidance, the company has developed an outstanding reputation in construction management, new construction, design/build, renovations, and in telecommunications installation work. Throughout the past 24 years, Buchanan General Contracting Company has maintained continuous operations, steady growth, and a solid financial report.

Mr. Buchanan's firm commitment to the needs and interests of the owner, his ability to prioritize the requirements of projects, his "on-the-spot" estimating skills, and his ability to hire and manage quality people have earned the company a repeat client list of nationally and locally recognized companies. These companies include AT&T Mobility, J. C. Penney, Bechtel, PSE and General Dynamics.
